Iridology (iris diagnostics) is a diagnostic method that belongs to the field of alternative medicine. This method diagnoses the overall health of a person, setting the constitutional type, reveals a great deal of information about our congenital dispositions, our health history and informs us about our past and present health conditions, weaknesses, and this informations can lead us to the root of the symptoms and syndromes.
The iris of the eye is a projection surface of organic disorders of individual organs or organ systems of the human organism.
The iris is the current map, where each site represents a body organ or system. When the process of weakening or disease begins in the body, our body signals it immediately in the form of the characters and colors in the iris, sclera and pupil of the eye, where it manifests itself as a fall in tension in the iris fibers, different colors, characters, spots in the iris.
The eye is connected to the nervous system through the optic nerve, which is crossing the thalamus. The thalamus has multiple functions, generally believed to act as a relay station, or hub, relaying information between different subcortical areas, the cerebral cortex, and informations coming via spinal cord. The spinal cord functions primarily in the transmission of nerve signals from the the body. It is the pathway for impulses – signals and informations from the body to the brain, and from the brain to the body. In iridology we believe, when there is a disbalance in the body or in the mind, the nervous system is more irritated due to changes in chemistry, electricality and mechanics in the tissues. All those informations are transferred via spinal cord and thalamus into the optic nerve and to the eye, which records information about every physical and psychological process that takes place in our body.
This diagnostic method has been used by Traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda for more than 4,000 years ago, using the whole eye to diagnose health. Currently, iridology is taught as an official discipline at the medical faculties of natural medicine.
For millennia it has been known that eyes are a reflection of our emotions and feelings.
